ATTRACT Study – ASA404 Lung Cancer Disease Information

Cancer generally is defined as the unregulated growth of specific cells in the body. The word cancer actually refers to over 100 different diseases, but in all cases, certain body cells multiply in an abnormal, unregulated manner.

Lung cancer is a disease of unregulated cell growth in the cells lining air passages of the lung. Worldwide, lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer related death in men and the second most common in women. The most common symptoms of lung cancer are shortness of breath, coughing (including coughing up blood) and weight loss.

There are two main types of lung cancers:

Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC)
Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)

These lung cancer types are diagnosed on how the cells look under a microscope, and treatment varies depending upon the lung cancer type.
